Carbodiimide, EDC (1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride) is a fine chemical product that is soluble in water. It is used as an activating reagent for carboxyl groups in amide synthesis, and is also used to activate phosphate groups, cross-link proteins and nucleic acids, and prepare immunoconjugates. The pH range when used is 4.0-6.0, and it is often used in combination with N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) or N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide to improve coupling efficiency. Carbodiimide is often used as a water-losing agent to activate carboxyl groups and promote the formation of amides and esters. In the reaction, N-hydroxybenzotriazole or N-hydroxysuccinimide is usually added to increase the yield and reduce the occurrence of side reactions. Polycarbodiimide is used as a cross-linking agent in the epoxy resin and coatings industries to improve the water resistance, solvent resistance and wear resistance of coatings. Carbodiimide is used in dental materials to improve the bonding strength of dentin and improve the bonding performance between composite resin and dentin through surface treatment.
